At present URNs administered by the German National Library are resolved from within their URLs, so that the "Resolver URL" is given together with the URN, for example http://nbn-resolving.de/urn/resolver.pl?urn=urn:nbn:de:gbv:089-3321752945. The application and use of URNs will be simplified, if the URN resolution happens without the "Resolver URL" (http://nbn-resolving.de/urn/resolver.pl?urn=...):
The EPICUR project developed a Plugin for the Mozilla browser (version 1.5 onwards), which Netscape 7.1 and Firefox 0.8 provided a direct resolution of URNs with the "NBN" namespace.
The URN Support Plugin developed by Shimoda Hiroshi of Japan was used as a model.
To successfully install the plugin, you must have version 1.5 or later of the Mozilla, Netscape or Firefox browser.
If you do not have the above mentioned browser, you can download and install it from following locations:
If you are already using the Mozilla, Netscape or Firefox browser, continue to the next step.
You can now enter URNs from the NBN namespace directly in browser's address line or follow links on a website directly from a URL.
Examples: urn:nbn:de:gbv:089-3321752945 urn:nbn:ch:slb-0013509610 urn:nbn:se:uu:diva-3475 Note: These examples work only after the plugin has been successfully installed in the browser.
